Year 3/4 Blog Friday 5th November 2021

Dear Parents,
We hope you have all had a lovely week. Year 3/4 children have been super busy continuing their learning on column addition and subtraction. It has been amazing to see how much progress each child has made towards this written calculation method. In English we have been studying Shape Poems. We did these to coincide with Bonfire Night in mind. The children also participated in an online assembly relating to firework safety provided by Essex Fire Service. It was also lovely to be able to participate in a whole school assembly this morning - albeit by Zoom but lovely to see all the children nonetheless.

WHOLE SCHOOL ENGLAND SUMDOG CONTEST

Calling all of you amazing mathematicians!
You have been entered into the Sumdog England Competition. It starts on Friday 5 November at 3.30pm, and finishes at 3.30pm on Thursday 11th November at 9am
Why not have a go and get your class on the school leaderboard?
I will be monitoring how well each class is doing. The winning class will get extra playtime!
Let's show our school what great mathematicians we are!
Good luck.

WINTER IS FAST APPROACHING

Please ensure your child brings a warm coat to wear on a daily basis.
Many thanks

SCHOOL COUNCIL
Article 12 of the UNCRC states that every child has the right to have their voices heard in matters that affect them.  With this in mind we cannot wait to get the School Council up and running so that our children can share ideas, take discussions back to classes and ALL children can be involved in decision making in a democratic way.  A huge well done to everyone brave enough to put themselves forward.  Classes have now voted and the results have been counted!  Congratulations to our new School Councillors:

Opal: Lexie W

Moonstone: Lottie

Garnet: Leo C

We know you will do a great job of representing your classmates in meetings and keeping us informed.  The first meeting will take place very soon!

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Next week we will be conducting a special day of Remembrance on the 11th November. We will be learning about the meaning of this special day. If the children have any items that they wish to share please feel free to bring them in to school.
Poppies and other items will be for sale next week. Please read the school newsletter for more details.

This year we are covering ‘Celebrating our Differences’ in PSHE. In light of this, we would like to participate in ‘Odd Socks Day’ to celebrate Anti-Bullying Week.

There is no pressure to buy the latest fashion or buy expensive costumes. All you have to do to take part is wear odd socks, it could not be simpler! The theme is ‘One Kind Word’ so we will be linking our work to the Rights in the UNCRC. The children will design their odd socks and then place a kind word on their sock to share with their peers.

A24:  Every child has the right to the best possible health, including mental health.

A1:  Children’s rights apply to all children, everywhere, all the time.

Please stay safe and have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs Hurley, Miss Harvey & Mr Greenfield
