Year 3/4 Blogpost 14.07.23

Happy Friday, everybody, and welcome to the last blog for this academic year! It has been an absolute pleasure to teach such a lovely group of children and we are so very proud of each and every one of them! We wish them all the very best on their next steps of their educational journey.

IMPORTANT DATES

Wednesday 19th July - Year 6 Leavers' Assembly

Friday 21st July - Non-pupil day

Monday 24th July - First Day of Summer Holidays

UNICEF SHOESHARE APPEAL

Once again on the last day of term we are collecting shoes in partnership with Unicef and Clarks, who will cleverly turn our old shoes into money that will help fulfil the rights of children around the world. You can send your child with a spare pair of shoes on the final day this term so that they can place their unwanted school shoes into our collection box. If you have any other unwanted pairs you can send these in too and if you want to get started early with a big shoe clear out, we will have a box ready to take them from Monday 11th July. Shoes must be in a wearable condition with no holes or broken soles and paired together with an elastic band. You can find out more about Shoeshare here; UNICEF & CLARKS SHOESHARE APPEAL Our last collection total was 145 pairs of shoes, let's see if together we can smash this total!

Article 28 & 29:  Every child has the right to an education

YEAR 3/4 EMAIL

Our emails will not be checked regularly from Thursday 20th July until Monday 4th September.

PHASE GROUP EMAILS
Please remember that if your child is moving classes then a new email address will be your point of contact. If your child is moving into Year 3 or Year 4 then our email is:

year3_4@downhallprimary.com

If your child is moving up to Year 5 then your point of contact is:

year 5_6@downhallprimary.com

HOMEWORK

Please can you make an effort to finish all outstanding pages in your Maths and English homework books. Whilst no official homework will be set over the Summer, it might be an idea to get your child to read regularly and log on to TTRS and Sumdog occasionally. As well, it is still not too late to enter the Summer Reading Challenge - details were on the bookmark bought home by each child.

LOOKING AHEAD TO SEPTEMBER

If you have any particular questions about next year, please ask rather than worry about these over the summer. It might be a good idea if your child is entering Year 3 to have a look at the Year 3/4 class pages of our website to see the overview of learning that will be covered.

BOOK COLLECTION

All children will need to hand in their reading diaries. We will pass these on to their next class teacher so they are ready to be re-issued in September.

The children's school work books will also be handed up - current book and most recent completed book. These completed books are sent home after the October half term.

Thank you to all of you who have supported us this year. It has been a pleasure to teach your children and we are grateful to you for your kind words. Wishing you a very happy and calm summer ahead.

Remember: children return to school on Tuesday 4th September.

Much love,

Mrs Hurley, Mr Greenfield & Miss Harvey 💙💛

Friday 7 July 2023

  Happy Friday, everybody!

We had a fantastic day today with everyone competing with their peers to win points for their house and it was lovely to see the children, staff and families cheering the children on.

This week, we held our annual open evening, where the children's work was displayed. We hope you enjoyed looking at your children's fantastic work.

  • Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes everyday is super important. You will have taken your Reading Record home for your parents to comment on. These will be collected by teachers and checked regularly. Please bring your homework books back to school when you are finished so that we can check them. Thank you.
  • Please make sure that your child is continuing to read and work on the Year 3 and 4 spellings which can be found in their reading record books.
  • Accelerated Reader - when you have finished your book you can complete a quiz and change your book. Remember that you need 3 100% scores to move up a level
  • Times table practice - Please log on to TTRS and Sumdog

Can Do

  • Continue logging on to TTRS, Sumdog and Myon or Big Cat - your logins are stuck in the front cover of your Reading Records.
We are available on our Year 3/4 email for matters that arise from time to time. Please could you ensure that you are emailing the school office in regards to any administrative matters such as child absence or changes to pick up.
