Year 3/4 Blogpost 31.03.23

Happy Friday everybody! We have made it through another term at Down Hall. Please make sure you rest up over the Easter break. Plenty of things going on this week. Please do read our newsletter for all our wonderful news!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Monday 17th April - first day back to school

Monday 1st May - Bank Holiday

Monday 8th May - King’s Coronation Bank Holiday

WHOLE SCHOOL TRIP TO BARLEYLANDS

On Monday, all of Down Hall Primary School had an amazing time at Barleylands Farm Park. Year 3/4 had a lot of fun on the bouncy pillow and also feeding all the animals. After lunch, we had a very bumpy tractor ride around the farm. We made our own bread and it tasted delicious.

ANIMAL VISIT TO YEAR 3/4

We have had a visit from Miss Harvey's hedgehog, Hedwig. He is an African Pygmy Hedgehog. We took turns at holding him. He was very shy and would curl up in a ball if he felt a bit threatened. The habitat of a hedgehog is very much under threat. On our visit to Sweyne Park, we didn't see any evidence of them which is very sad.

SCHOOL OPENING TIME CHANGES

Back in December we notified you of the need to

change the school day times, increasing the hours

children are in school from 31.5 hours to 32.5

hours per week. This has been a decision made by

the Department of Education.

From September 2023, our morning registration

will be at 8:45. Gates will open at 8:35 and close

at 8:45.

Many thanks for your cooperation with this.

Year 3/4 Blogpost 24.03.23

Dear Parents,
We hope you are having a great week. We have been working super hard on our assessments and the progress that we have seen in all of the children is something that we are super proud of. Because the children have worked so hard in school there will be no homework set this week.

Barleylands Trip

  • On Monday the gates will open at 8:30am and close at 8:45am. The coaches are leaving at 9:00am prompt so please make sure you get here for 8:30am - set those alarms!
  • Children need to be in normal school uniform although you can wear comfortable footwear or footwear that takes the weather conditions into account.
  • Children need to bring a packed lunch and a filled water bottle. This needs to be clearly labelled. It will be easier for the children if this is all in a disposable bag that can be thrown away at the end of lunchtime.
  • No money or anything else needs to be brought in on this day.

Year 3 and 4 Class Visit to Sweyne Park
Year 3 and 4 are learning about Living Things and their Habitats in science this term. As part of this learning we walked to Sweyne Park and went on and invertebrate hunt. We had so much fun discovering a range of creatures and also being together in our lovely local park. We will be returning in the summer when it is less muddy!

Year 3/4 Blogpost 17.03.23

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you are having a great week and are looking forward to some lovely spring sunshine over the coming days.

BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE WEEK
On Wednesday we all took part in a live BSL lesson. The children enjoyed learning how to sign their names, greetings, family names and animals.

Sign Language Week is run on an annual basis by the BDA. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people of all ages across the UK to take up the challenge of learning BSL for themselves and finding out more about the language and culture of the Deaf and Deafblind British people for whom BSL is their first or preferred language.

PTA FUNDRAISING FOR COMIC RELIEF

On Friday we marked Comic Relief's Red Nose Day with a non-uniform day.  During this day we learnt about some of the projects that Comic Relief are involved in around the world and in our own country.  We looked at how these projects help children to achieve the rights of the UNCRC and you can read the pocket book of rights HERE.

Year 3/4 Blogpost 10.03.23

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wow! Another exciting week here at Down Hall. The Year 3/4 children are continuing to learn  about fractions in maths. We have been looking closely at equivalent fractions. In English, the children have continued writing their playscripts. They have worked really hard on redrafting and editing them so a big well done to you all!

Times Tables Rock Star Day

On Thursday 9th March the whole school took part in a TTRS day. We dressed up as rock stars and took part in math's activities throughout the day. During our assembly we learnt all about the importance of learning our times tables and how using Times Table Rock Stars can help us. We had a live battle between 2 of our school’s quickest children and even Mrs Hurley and Mr Greenfield got involved. It was amazing to see how fast some children are – but the main message was the importance of accuracy.

We had lots of fun playing TTRS and challenging other classes to battles! The children love doing this!

We all had a great fun filled day learning our times tables in a variety of ways. Congratulations to our winners and to everybody for taking part.

If you are unsure about your child’s TTRS login details, please ask your child’s class teacher for more information.

Year 3/4 Blogpost 04.03.23

Dear Parents,

Wow! What an exciting week here at Down Hall. The Year 3/4 children have been learning all about fractions in Maths. It is great to see our times table programme having an impact on our children's experiences. In English, the children have very much enjoyed the beginning of our unit on Playscripts. We are basing our writing on the movie, Zootropolis.

World Book Day - Thursday 4th March

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day at Down Hall! Our aim, as teachers, was to promote a love of reading and it was so lovely to see the children to bring in their favourite book to share in class with each other. It was also fantastic to see children and staff dressing up. Miss Trunchbull AKA Mr Greenfield certainly caused a stir!

Whole School Trip to Barleylands
This week your child will have brought home a letter regarding our whole school trip to Barleylands on Monday 27th March. Please ensure that you have completed the reply slip and returned this to school by Friday 17th March.
Please keep an eye on the newsletter for any further information regarding this trip.
