Year 3/4 Blogpost Thursday 20th October

Dear Parents,

We made it! Thanks for all so much for your support. May we take this opportunity to wish you and your children a happy and restful half term. It has been an absolute pleasure to teach all of your amazing children and I know that I speak for all of us when I say we could not be more proud of them all.

CHRISTMAS CARDS

Your child has bought their artwork home. Please read the accompanying letter and follow the instructions. The artwork must come back to school on the first day back after the holidays  please.

SCHOOL COUNCILLORS

This week children have voted for their

School Councillors. Those who wanted

to be considered needed to give a

speech to their class who then voted on

who they wanted to represent them. Well done

to everyone who stood for election as it takes

determination and bravery to write and deliver a

speech. Democracy is important at Down Hall and

the following children were elected as their class

School Councilors:

Garnet - Mason

Moonstone - Lexi

Opal - Jessica

BOOK FAIR COMPETITION AND

RAFFLE

During the book fair any child

purchasing a book will be given a raffle

ticket which will go into a draw. After the fair on

Thursday the lucky winning ticket will be drawn

and the winner will receive a £5.00 voucher which

can be used at the book fair on the Friday.

Also, your child will come home with a competition

to re-imagine the book cover of their favourite

book. Entries need to be completed and returned

to school by 7th November to be judged on the

8th. There are four categories: EYFS, KS1, Year

3/4 and Year 5/6. The winner from each

category will win a £5.00 voucher to spend at the

fair.

Good luck!

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

As part of our topic on Roman Britain, we will be making gladius (swords). Please can we ask you to start collecting cardboard to enable us to make these after the half term.

  • Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes at least 3 times a week is super important. You will have taken your Reading Record home for your parents to comment on. These will be collected by teachers and checked from time to time. Please make sure you bring your book back when you are finished and your teacher can change it for you. As soon as you are ready you can take a quiz at school. Remember that you need 3x 100% scores to move up a level.
  • High Frequency Words - Learn the words in your Reading Records. Practice spelling them out loud and writing them down.
  • Times table practice - this week we are looking at 4's. Please practice these as we do in school.

  • Continue logging on to TTRS, Sumdog - your logins are stuck in the front cover of your Reading Records.
  • Please click on the link to complete the recycling challenge set by Miss Langley. Complete some tasks at home if you wish. Year 3/4 Blogpost 14.10.22

Dear Parents,

We hope you have all had a lovely week. We are so very proud of all our children. They have all worked really hard and tried their best in their assessments this week, which is all we ever ask of them.

Thank you to those of you who have booked an appointment with us for next week's Parent/Teacher Consultations. The letter was available as a link in last week's newsletter. We are very much looking forward to seeing you either by Zoom on Monday or in the school hall on Tuesday between 3.30pm and 6pm. Links will be emailed to you in time for your meeting.

HOMEWORK

We would like you all to enjoy a well deserved rest so we are not setting any formal homework for the coming week.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

If your child would like to be a school council representative then please prepare a presentation for your class to share on Monday and Wednesday afternoon of next week. We will be delighted to have a child from each class represent Year 3/4 children on our Down Hall School Council.

Have a super weekend,

Year 3/4 Blogpost Friday 7th October

Dear Parents,
We hope you have all had a lovely week.
In English this week we have started to write our Roman narrative adventure story. In maths, we have begun looking at our new unit, Addition and Subtraction. It would be helpful if the children knew their number bonds to 10/100.
Please see the link below for how to help your child.

Please remember that with the onset of colder weather, all children need a warm and waterproof coat at all times.

A Message from Mr. Greenfield

Good afternoon parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I will be absent from school for a period of time due to an operation on my knee. As a result, for Parent's Evening the meetings will be taking place over Zoom which has been included in the Parent's Evening letter. During my absence, the children will be taught by Miss Bartlett. I wish the children the best of luck and I look forward to seeing them when I return.
Mr. Greenfield

Harvest Collection

This year we will continue to support Rochford Extended Services with our Harvest collection.  Donations will be boxed up and distributed by them to the children and families that need them most within our own local community.

As a Gold Level Rights Respecting School, we do our best to advocate for Children’s Rights and for sustainability.  Articles 24 and 27 state that:

“Every child has the right to the best possible health and a good standard of living”

If you can send in any non-perishable items before Wednesday 19th October that would be fabulous and you can find a full list of suggested items here.  In school we will celebrate Harvest during the week of 17th October with some learning in class and by singing our favourite Harvest song in assembly.  Please enjoy having a go at the Harvest Samba here and thanks for any contributions you feel able to make.

Homework pages for this week have been uploaded to Google Classroom. It has been great to see so many children submitting their homework. Please check that your child has highlighted and written down the CORRECT pages. It is also really helpful if they can hand homework in by Wednesday each week, in order for teachers to mark it in time to return it to them on Fridays.
