Year 3/4 Blogpost 25.03.22

Happy Friday everybody - what a brilliant, sunny week we have had in Year 3/4! We have been working super hard on our assessments and the progress that we have seen in all of the children is something that we are super proud of. Because the children have worked so hard in school there will be no homework set this week.

The Mother's Day sale was lovely to be a part of on Friday afternoon - a massive thank you to the PTA for putting this on!

Playground Behaviour

This week we came together to have a meeting with all of the children about some poor choices that are being made at break times. Sadly, a small minority of children are not following our school rules and preventing all children from having the right to play safely. We wanted to remind the children that the consequences of not following the rules would be followed in steps as per our school behaviour policy.

We have also noticed that our school uniform policy is not being followed as carefully as we would like. The children are proud members of the Down Hall community and are representing us all to and from school. We would ask that children with long hair have it tied back to prevent any nasty accidents on the playground and also to ensure that it looks neat and tidy. Children also need to arrive at school in correct, clean uniform. We thank you for your support on this.

Drop In Session - Wednesday 30th March

After school this Wednesday, we are excited to announce that there will be a drop-in session between 3:15-4:00pm! This will be an opportunity for you all to come into class to see where your children work ever so hard and to look at their English and Maths books. We will send all the children out to you as usual on this day and once all the children are with their adults, you can come down the steps into the classroom. There will be sufficient time for you to visit more than one class if you have more than one child in school. We are very much looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday!

Fundraising For Ukraine - Friday 1st April

On Friday 1st April, the children will be able to wear blue and yellow clothes (non-school uniform) to school to help raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine - suggested donation of £1.

We will be discussing the situation with the children in an age appropriate manner, very much focusing on the Rights of the Child and how the invasion has meant that children are not getting their right to be safe from harm, the right to a home and the right to go to school. The children are very much used to looking at events and situations by relating these to our rights but if you have any concerns please just let us know beforehand.

Don't forget to keep up all your fantastic efforts with your reading at home as well as TTRS and Sumdog - it will make a huge impact on your child's overall development.

We are available on our Year 3/4 email for matters that arise from time to time. Please could you ensure that you are emailing the school office in regards to any administrative matters such as child absence or changes to pick up. Again, we would like to reiterate that we would prefer you to come and see us at the end of the day if there are any issues or questions that you have. Just give us a wave and we will pop over!

Have a wonderful weekend and a huge happy Mother's Day to all you amazing mums out there!

On Friday 1st April, the children will be able to wear blue and yellow clothes (non-uniform) to school to help raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine - suggested donation £1.

We will be continuing to discuss the situation with the children as the crisis has been the dominant story in Newround. We are very much focusing on the Rights of the Child and how the invasion has meant that children are not getting their right to be safe from harm, the right to a home and the right to go to school. The children are very much used to looking at evernts and situations by relating these to our rights but if you have any concerns please let us know beforehand.

Year 3/4 Blogpost Friday 11th March 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,
Wow! Another exciting week here at Down Hall. The Year 3/4 children are continuing to learn  about fractions in Maths. We have been looking closely at fractions of amounts. In English, the children have now finished writing their performance poem. They have worked really hard on redrafting and editing their poems so a big well done to you all!

EGGSHELLS
If you are able, please can you save any egg shells for our Science investigation. We would appreciate it if you could rinse them first and send them in in a small bag.
Thanks so much!

PTA FUNDRAISING FOR COMIC RELIEF

Noses will be on sale in school during the week commencing 14th March for £1.50. They will be sold during school hours in the same way that the Poppy Appeal items are.

Thank you.

FUNDRAISING FOR UKRAINE

As a staff we are very aware of the continuing terrible situation and humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in Ukraine. Below is a link to last week's newsletter which contains information and helpful websites that support discussing this issue with your child should you wish to do so or if they are asking questions.

We will be meeting as a staff next week to plan for a fundraising event in support of the DEC campaign to help the people of Ukraine. We were mindful, however, that this event did not get muddled in with an already planned charity event in support of Red Nose Day. We will send details of this separate fundraising event in due course.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Wow! What an exciting week here at Down Hall. The Year 3/4 children have been learning all about fractions in Maths. It is great to see our times table programme having an impact on our children's experiences. In English, the children have very much enjoyed the beginning of our unit on Performance Poetry. Here is a link to the wonderful Michael Rosen who has certainly captured the children's minds. https://forreadingaddicts.co.uk/poetry/10-silly-poems-stories-performed-michael-rosen/

Times Table Parent Workshop

Thank you to all the parents who attended the workshop on Tuesday afternoon. Our children were a credit to you and to our school community. Please read today's newsletter for more information regarding extra workshops coming up soon.

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day at Down Hall! Our aim, as teachers, was to promote a love of reading and it was so lovely to see the children to bring in their favourite book to share in class with each other.

Here are some pictures of our day.
