Year 3 and 4 Church Visit

Year 3 and 4 Church Visit

Today Garnet, Moonstone and Opal visited Holy Trinity Church in Rayleigh. The children were welcomed by the vicar Nick Rowan and were able to learn about how Christians pray and worship in churches.
Upon arrival, the children discovered that the church is actually over 600 years old and most of the stone used to build the church was actually transported from Kent!
The vicar explained that the porch was actually used as a classroom 400 years ago. Although 45 of us were able to fit in at a time, the children all agreed that Down Hall Primary School is much nicer.

Once inside the church, the vicar showed the children a variety of items that you would only see in a church. The children all showed great interest in sharing what they had learnt in school identifying some of the items in the church and what they were used for.

Below are some of the items that the children were able to find out more about.
The Font
The Stain-glassed windows
The Pulpit
The Chancel

After having a sip of grape juice, symbolizing the blood of Christ, and a piece of bread, symbolizing the body of Christ, the children then took part in questionnaire answering questions about the things they had learnt today.
Apart from the bad weather, I think we can all agree what a brilliant trip it had been and how fantastic the children behaved. They were great advocates for Down Hall Primary School.
