Opal Excavation 2017
A big thank you to all the children and parents for bringing equipment/tools to the school that allowed Opal class to carry out an excavation. As you would imagine, there were plenty of items discovered by the children. Click on the link below to access photographs taken on the day.
Many thanks,

Multicultural Week in Moonstone Class
Multicultural Week in Moonstone Class
The children thoroughly enjoyed spending time learning about Brazil. They began by researching the country for homework and sharing all their fascinating facts with each other. Then, over the course of the week, they looked at where it is in the world, completing maps showing that it is the biggest country in South America. The children then enjoyed working together in groups to find out about Brazilian food, sport, carnival, art and well-known landmarks. On Friday the children had great fun sharing all their hard work with other classes.
Well done Moonstone - fantastic work!

Opal Multicultural Week
Multicultural week
2 weeks ago, Opal had the fantastic opportunity to learn all about China. The children explored the culture, tourist opportunities and sports that are played in China. Furthermore, Mr Jones provided some fantastic photographs and stories about China from his travels.
The children then created a fact-file to share their learning with the children from Sapphire and Emerald class. The children had a fantastic week and worked extremely hard. Well done Opal!
Multicultural Week in Garnet Class
During Multicultural Week, Garnet class looked at the USA.
After conducting and sharing some home research, the children were very excited to learn more about the USA.
We started with some map work and made a workbook to keep all of our lovely work together.
Each table was put into a 'team' and researched a different area.
These were:
Landmarks
NASA
Food
A Fact on Every State
Sport
The children also took part in basketball in their PE lessons and we looked at the National Anthem in class.
The week ended with sharing our work with Ruby class and EYFS. This was lovely to see the children share what they had learnt and they listened to each other attentively. We particularly enjoyed having a go at making a Pikachu with Ruby class and eating the Anzac cookies with Pearl and Quartz.
A great week, Garnet Class. Well done for your hard work!

Year 3 and 4 Church Visit
Year 3 and 4 Church Visit
Today Garnet, Moonstone and Opal visited Holy Trinity Church in Rayleigh. The children were welcomed by the vicar Nick Rowan and were able to learn about how Christians pray and worship in churches.
Upon arrival, the children discovered that the church is actually over 600 years old and most of the stone used to build the church was actually transported from Kent!
The vicar explained that the porch was actually used as a classroom 400 years ago. Although 45 of us were able to fit in at a time, the children all agreed that Down Hall Primary School is much nicer.
Below are some of the items that the children were able to find out more about.
The Font |
The Stain-glassed windows |
The Pulpit |
The Chancel |
After having a sip of grape juice, symbolizing the blood of Christ, and a piece of bread, symbolizing the body of Christ, the children then took part in questionnaire answering questions about the things they had learnt today.
Apart from the bad weather, I think we can all agree what a brilliant trip it had been and how fantastic the children behaved. They were great advocates for Down Hall Primary School.
