Year 3/4 Blog 2.02.24

 Dear Parents,

We hope you had a wonderful week. The children have been working hard this week producing lots of excellent work. There has been a big focus on the build up to Chinese New Year this week and the children have been writing Non Chronological reports about the Chinese New Year. As well as this, in Art sessions the children have begun creating their own Willow Pattern plates. The detail the children have put in their work has been great to see this week.

Chinese New Year

As part of our learning about the Chinese New Year, we will be carrying out Chinese
cooking and art activities with the children on Friday 9th February.  This will include making different foods such as rice, spring rolls, chicken noodles and Chinese spices. We hope that by cooking more regularly in school, we will help the children to develop a love of cookery and a willingness to try new and different foods. As part of this we are asking that the children come to school wearing "lucky red" clothing.
Furthermore, we are inviting all parents to come into school to join us on Friday February 9th 2-3pm in celebrating Chinese New Year. You will be able to take part in tasting the children’s food as well as having the opportunity to look at the children’s art and a range of Chinese activities.
The children are looking forward to sharing this great experience with you.

Year 3/4  Homework Tasks - Due Thursday 8th February
Must Do
  • Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes everyday is super important. The children will have taken their Reading record home for parents to comment in. These will be collected by teachers and checked regularly. Please bring your homework books back to school when you are finished so that we can check them. Thank you.
  • Spelling Frame
This week the children will be set tests based on spelling rules. The rules that they will be focusing on can be found on Spelling Frame. Your child has their login details glued into their Reading diaries. This week we would like the children to focus on:
Spelling Rule 5 - Part 2 of looking at prefixes.

  • Accelerated Reader - when you have finished your book, you can take a quiz at school. Remember that you need 3 100% scores to move up a level
  • Times table practice - next week we are learning our 4 times tables including division facts. Please practice these on TTRS.

Can Do

  • Continue logging on to TTRS and Sumdog - your logins are stuck in the front cover of your Reading Records.
  • Maths - Year 4 will be completing their statutory Multiplication Tables Check in June this year. To this end, please can you ensure your child is regularly accessing and practicing these at: https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
  • This activity exactly mirrors the 'Multiplication Tables Check' that will be given to children at the end of Year 4. They are tested on their multiplication tables up to 12 x 12. There are twenty-five questions and children have six seconds to answer each question and three seconds between questions. The questions are generated randomly using the same rules as the 'Multiplication Tables Check'.
  • With Children's Mental Health week being celebrated next week, can you design a piece of artwork about all of the things that matter to you. Please click on the link below for a video giving you an idea of what to do for this task.
