Year 3/4 Blogpost Friday 6th October

Dear Parents,
We hope you have all had a lovely week.
In English this week we have started to write our persuasive text on Brazil. In maths, we are coming to the end of number and place value and will be starting addition and subtraction next week.

Please remember that with the onset of colder weather, all children need a warm and waterproof coat at all times. The weather can be very up and down this time of year.

Jamie Knight

We were very lucky to have a visit from Jamie Knight this week who was very busy all day. He worked with each class and held a masterclass after school as well as showing his amazing skills to the parents.

Cress
This week, we have carried out a scientific experiment and have been observing how cress seeds grow in different environments. Ask your child to explain to you what their one looked like this week. We have now put them all in a place where they can get their needs (light, warmth, water) and will observe if and how they change.

Harvest Collection

Thank you to everyone that kindly donated food for The One Love Project; a soup kitchen and food bank providing support for those families and children that really need it. We celebrated today in school with a special assembly where we all shared songs that we have rehearsed for the occasion.  We thank you for your continued support in helping our children to understand Children's Rights and learn how to look after ourselves, each other and our world.

World Mental Health Day Tuesday 10th October

The The theme for 2023, set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, is Mental health is a universal human right’. Down Hall Primary School see wellbeing as ‘being comfortable, healthy and/or happy’. To celebrate this very important day, we would like the children to come to school wearing clothes that are comfortable, and if possible linking to the colours of ‘Inside Out’ which are: Green, Purple, Yellow, Blue and  Red. We hope that this will encourage them to explore some of their own emotions. Throughout the day, children will be taking part in class activities relating to World Mental Health Day. We aim to raise awareness of mental health and drive positive change for everyone’s mental health. Should you wish to continue doing activities at home, please use the following link and sign up for suggestions:

  • Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes at least 3 times a week is super important. You will have taken your Reading Record home for your parents to comment on. These will be collected by teachers and checked from time to time. Please make sure you bring your book back when you are finished and your teacher can change it for you. As soon as you are ready you can take a quiz at school. Remember that you need 3x 100% scores to move up a level.
  • High Frequency Words - Learn the words in your Reading Records. Practice spelling them out loud and writing them down.
  • Times table practice - this week we are looking at 3's/4's. Please practice these as we do in school.
Can Do
  • Continue logging on to TTRS, Sumdog - your logins are stuck in the front cover of your Reading Records.
  • Bring in a photo, drawing or create a poster showing what you do take some time out for yourself. E.g. reading, listening to music, playing football, art, etc and we will share them over next week.
  • We have been growing cress. Do any of you grow anything at home? If so please bring in or send a picture of something you are growing at home.
