Year 3/4 Weekly Update 22.01.21
Dear Parents,
We have got to the end of the third week! We are completely overwhelmed (in a good way!) by the volume of work that is being submitted. We know it takes time and effort to do this and it is such a valuable way for us to see the progress that the children are making as well as helping out if needed. Please continue to submit your child's work via email or Google Classroom. And remember it is not necessary to hand in every single piece, every single day... So thank you for all of the support you are clearly giving your children. We appreciate the challenges you face, especially if you have more than one child and/or are trying to work from home yourselves. We are mindful of this and are here to support you and your child/children in whatever way we can.
Sumdog Message from Mrs Hurley
WHOLE SCHOOL SUMDOG ESSEX COMPETITION
Calling all of you amazing mathematicians!
You have been entered into the Sumdog Essex Competition. It starts on January 22nd at 3.30pm, and finishes at 3.30pm on January 28th
Why not have a go and get your class on the school leaderboard?
I will be monitoring how well each class is doing. The winning class will get a mention in the school newsletter!
Let's show our school what great mathematicians we are!
Good luck.

REGARDING LIVE LESSONS
There have been some questions regarding whether the school will be adopting “live lessons” and we would like to take some time to explain our stance on this.
Government advice on remote learning stipulates that remote education should have “recorded or live direct teaching time and time for pupils to complete tasks independently.”
Teachers are currently in school everyday teaching the children of key workers as needed. Work in school directly mirrors the learning set on the blogs in order to provide equality of opportunity and to ensure the consistency of learning where children are in part time, so there is no opportunity to record live at this time.
What the school is providing are recorded direct teaching that is bespoke for each year group, professionally edited and presented to a high standard by both White Rose and Oak Academy (the Government endorsed remote learning platform). Another reason that we have adopted these platforms is because it allows parents greater control over the timing of their home learning so they can best balance their work commitments or if they are supporting more than one child at home.
Teachers are still available, however, to give detailed feedback on work submitted by children via email where requested. Teachers are also available via email or telephone to support you in any aspect of home learning.
We firmly believe at this moment in time the school’s current approach offers the best means of delivering quality teaching at home which both supports you as parents and enables teachers to continue to teach in class and continue to assist parents in home learning.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend. Please remember we are only ever an email or phone call away.
Take care and stay safe,
Mrs Hurley Miss Harvey Mr Greenfield

Year 3/4 Blog - Looking ahead to next week...
Dear Parents,
We hope you are all keeping well and managing to keep safe and calm.
A reminder about us wanting to receive an email or comment on Google Classroom from you all this week.
Thank you to you all for sharing all of your hard work and excellent efforts in this week's learning tasks. We appreciate you taking the time to share it either via our email address or on Google Classroom. Please let us know how you have found the home learning, tell us what you have done (add a photo if you want to) and, most importantly, if you are all ok. We will be making welfare phone calls to anyone we have not heard from next Monday so please take a minute to drop us an email to the address below:

OVERVIEW FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week we will be continuing our maths topic of Multiplication and Division. We will be writing our Gladiator story in English. GPS will be a mixture of Oak Academy lessons and teacher directed tasks. Handwriting will be continued in the same way as this week. Reading will be comprehension tasks and we also need you to be logging into MyOn and reading your own books for atleast 30 minutes every day. Our Project work will be a mixture of RE - Sikhism, Science - Animals, Project/DT - Romans, PE - Joe Wicks or getting out with your fmaily for some daily exercise is super important to your well-being.
Work will continue be uploaded to Google Classroom each morning - it is scheduled for 7.30am.
You will have a variety of tasks to complete. These tasks are broadly in line with what the children would have been learning had we all been in school this term.
Please make sure that you are also logging on to TTRS, Sumdog and MyOn.
Remember, your teachers will be monitoring Google Classroom and their emails, so if you need any help, just ask.
We hope you are all well and we are looking forward to seeing you all soon. Have a great weekend!

IMPORTANT EXTRA INFORMATION
BBC EDUCATION
The BBC has confirmed that it will air educational programming as the country goes back into lockdown and many parents start to home school their children. The move means that parents across the country are now juggling their own jobs with making sure their children continue to learn and, as well as fitness guru Joe Wicks announcing that he's bringing his hugely popular workouts back, the BBC will do their bit to help out with a extensive educational TV schedule across a number of channels.Starting on Monday, the lessons will include three hours of primary school programming every weekday on CBBC, and at least two hours for secondary pupils on BBC Two.
The primary programmes, which will be broadcast on CBBC from 9am every day, will include BBC Live Lessons and BBC Bitesize Daily as well as Our School, Celebrity Supply Teacher, Horrible Histories and Operation Ouch.
We will be keeping our eyes out on how we can use this incredible resource to enhance our remote learning offer!
DIRECTING HOME LEARNING
As the lockdown takes hold once more, we would like to assist your school by offering a free support course to share with parents and guardians. The content of this course covers tips and tricks for parents to direct, inspire and feel in control of a child's learning at home. Feel free to browse the video titles on the dedicated webpage:
