Friday 16 February 2024

On Friday 9th February, Years 3 and 4  had a lovely time celebrating Chinese New Year.

We have been learning about China and the Ancient Shang Dynasty. As you can see, we have been super busy and have achieved a lot in a very short time. In English, we have been writing non-chronological reports on Chinese New Year. In art, we looked at the story of the Willow Pattern. The two doves are together forever and we thought it was a beautiful story. We coloured beautiful dragon pictures, made lovely lanterns and all the adults worked hard t help us make lovely pieces for our class displays. Finally, on Friday 9th February we marked Chinese New Year by participating in a number of activities. These included cooking in our classrooms, making Chinese lanterns, dressing in red clothes as red is a very lucky colour in Chinese culture. Miss Sharman bought us all fortune cookies so thank you to her for being so kind. We wrote our names in Chinese writing and coloured in masks.

On Friday afternoon, we invited our parents to come into school to taste our lovely food creations: egg fried rice, chicken chow mein and spring rolls. We also got to share some of our lovely learning.

We had an absolutely wonderful day!

                 World Book Day

This year, World Book Day is on Thursday 7th March. To promote reading within our school community, for this day the children can bring in a favourite book from home which they can share with the other children in their class.

They can also bring in props which serves as a clue to their favourite book/character or come dressed up as a favourite character too if they so wish. On this day all the children will also receive a £1 World Book Day voucher!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Friday 16th February - Break for half term
Monday 26th February - Back to School
Thursday 7th March - World Book Day

Year 3/4  Homework Tasks - Due Thursday 15th February
Must Do
  • Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes everyday is super important. The children will have taken their Reading record home for parents to comment in. These will be collected by teachers and checked regularly. Please bring your homework books back to school when you are finished so that we can check them. Thank you.
  • Spelling Frame
This week the children will be set tests based on spelling rules. The rules that they will be focusing on can be found on Spelling Frame. Your child has their login details glued into their Reading diaries. This week we would like the children to focus on:
    Spelling Rule 6
There is no homework set from the books
  • Accelerated Reader - when you have finished your book, you can take a quiz at school. Remember that you need 3 100% scores to move up a level
  • Times table practice - Please practice these on TTRS.

Can Do

  • Continue logging on to TTRS and Sumdog - your logins are stuck in the front cover of your Reading Records.
  • Maths - Year 4 will be completing their statutory Multiplication Tables Check in June this year. To this end, please can you ensure your child is regularly accessing and practicing these at: https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
  • This activity exactly mirrors the 'Multiplication Tables Check' that will be given to children at the end of Year 4. They are tested on their multiplication tables up to 12 x 12. There are twenty-five questions and children have six seconds to answer each question and three seconds between questions. The questions are generated randomly using the same rules as the 'Multiplication Tables Check'.
  • Continue your learning outside the classroom and find out more about The Shang Dynasty.
