Year 3/4 Blog Friday 11th February 2022

Dear Parents,

We hope you have had a good week and that you are looking forward to the half term break. There has been a small homework task set relating to our RRS if you choose to do it. Other than that, we would like you to relax and enjoy a well deserved rest. The Year 3/4 teachers look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 21st February.

RRS HOMEWORK

Your child will have bought home their favourite recipe from our cooking sessions in class. We would love it if your child could show off their culinary skills by making this dish for their family. Please share any photos of your child's meal on Google Classroom.

Article 24 (health and health services) Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.

Article 31 (leisure, play and culture) Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

CHINESE NEW YEAR
As part of our learning about the Chinese New Year, we carried out Chinese
cooking and art activities with the children.
This included making and tasting different foods such as rice, chicken noodles, spring rolls
and sweet and sour sauce and Chinese spices.
We hope that by cooking more regularly in school, we will help the children to develop
a love of cookery and a willingness to try new and different foods.
A slideshow will be available to view on Google Classroom at some stage soon.

MID-YEAR REPORT

Today your child will come home with their Mid-Year Report. This report is different to previous years in so far that we have focused fully on areas for development in reading, writing and maths. "What can we do to help my child at home?" is probably the most common question as teachers that we are asked so we have very clearly set out 3 next step targets that we will be focusing on for your child in school for the rest of the year ahead. This will give you a clear understanding of areas for development in each curriculum area and enable you to further support these at home too. There will be a chance to discuss this report with us on Friday 25th February on our Parent/Teacher Consultations day - details of which can be found in the letter below:

INVITATION TO ALL PARENTS

Times tables are at the heart of mental arithmetic, which in itself helps form the basis of a child’s understanding and ability when working with numbers. Once children have learnt their times tables to fluency and instant recall, they are then able to work more confidently through a wide range of calculations and problem solving.

Join us for a Parent Workshop based on Times Tables and how they are taught at Down Hall Primary.

Tuesday 1st March 2022 1.30-2.15pm

At this stage Mrs Hurley will be conducting this session via Zoom but there may be a change in restrictions which will enable the session to run in the school hall with social distancing measures put in place. If this is the case then we would need to limit numbers to a maximum of 30 people.

With special guests (Times Table Champions)

If you would like to attend, please email Mrs Hurley: year3_4@downhallprimary.com
